Black ice, slick tire, unsafe speed a bad combination

January 21, 2009 by pamliconews

Jomar Thomas, 30, hit a patch of black ice on Highway 55 at the intersection of White Farm Road and the next thing he knew, he was across the road and upside down in the ditch. He was helped out of the vehicle through the rear window and seems to be shaken, but unhurt.

According to Oriental Police Chief Jeff Casassa, Thomas was cited for driving at an unsafe speed for the road conditions and would be ticketed for the slick, bald front left tire, which he said added to the accident.

Jim Nixon, volunteer firefighter and EMS, controls westbound traffic at the scene. These cars are waiting for the tow truck to remove the Jeep from the ditch and remove it from the road.
