A tragic two-car collision Thursday killed Carolyn Dorning, 65, of 232 Mill Pond Road in Alliance. Dorning was the sole occupant of a 1989 Ford Taurus, when she attempted to exit the parking lot of the Alliance Post Office. A motorist, heading east on Hwy. 55 in a 1995 Chevrolet four-door, hit Dorning’s vehicle broadside. The accident occurred about noon.
Trooper Michael Riggs of the North Carolina Highway Patrol said the second driver and a passenger were transported to Craven Regional Medical Center for medical treatment. Both are expected to recover.
Though the accident remains under investigation, Riggs said he does not expect to file charges against the driver of the Chevrolet. He added road construction work just east of the accident site does not appear to have been a factor in the collision.
