Henry Ellison, father of driver Susan House, being transferred from his van to the ambulance for transport to Craven Regional Medical Center Thursday.

Susan House, her father Henry Ellison and Skip Fenner walked away from a two-vehicle head-on collision late Thursday morning. The accident occurred on Highway 55 near the intersection of Alligator Loop Road in Stonewall.

House, 48, was taking Ellison to New Bern to visit her mom who was transported earlier in the day to Craven Regional Medical Center.

House veered off the road onto the shoulder, over corrected and hit Fenner’s 2007 pick up truck.

“She got out of the van right away and came over and told me she was sorry,” said Fenner at the scene.

House and Ellison were transported to the hospital in New Bern by the Pamlico Rescue Squad, complaining of neck and chest pains.

State Highway Patrol Trooper Dean Leitschuh said their injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

Causes of the accident are attributed to speeding and Driving While Impaired. House, who is taking four prescription drugs, was ticketed for driving left of center, driving at an unsafe speed in addition to the DWI charge.

A driver who witnessed the accident told law enforcement officers House had been swerving back and forth across the road since she left Oriental.

Fenner, who fears his $30,000 truck might be totaled, opted to seek medical attention at the local medical facility. Bell, his 12-year old Golden Labrador, seemed un-phased after the impact.

House lives with her parents on Pineview Drive in Oriental.
