Forest fire to burn through night

February 25, 2009 by Jeff Aydelette

While en route to the scene, Bossy Hardison, Pamlico County Forest Ranger, immediately summoned his agency’s fire plow, which is housed in Grantsboro, and another unit positioned in nearby Craven County.

After assessing the situation and conferring with Mike Ferrara, whose family owns the large parcel, Hardison determined the blazes pose no threat to buildings or to human safety.

“We’re going to let these two fires burns themselves out,” he said. “They are in a contained area. We’ll put some smoke signs out on Florence Road. It will probably burn through the night, but the fire cannot go anywhere at this point.”
